ConE 421 Construction Estimating Exam #3: Group Exam This examination is worth 200 points. The written portion is worth 180 points and the oral review will be worth 20 points. Show all of your work and please state your assumptions. Partial credit is possible. The exam is open notes and other references. As a medium-sized general contractor ($8 to 10 million in annual volume), you are asked to submit a bid on 10 similar brick homes in a West Des Moines development. It is anticipated that these homes will be completed within an 18 month time period. As the GC, your firm will perform some ofthe work such as masonry, foundation steel, and framing. The remainder of the work will be subcontracted to local specialty firms. Project details can be found below as well as in the attached plans. Sales tax in Des Moines is 6%. Labor burdens (taxes) are 30% of the direct bare labor cost. A performance bond is requested at a cost to the GC of 1.2% ofthe total project cost.
