I ConE 421- Construction Estimating Lab One - Introduction to Estimating Fall 2010 50 Points Date: August 24, 2010 Due: August 31, 2010 Par~~J~.9J~oint~L~ ~ .~. ~ ~·~ ·-------.- The objective of this lab is to help you understand the roles and responsibilities of a construction estimator and to recognize the skills, experience, and knowledge that a successful estimator must have. Each group wiil contact a construction company, and conduct a telephone or face-to-face interview with a senior estimator in the company. Before conducting the interview, discuss the following topics as a group. Using these topics as a guideline, develop a set of questions that you will ask to gain information. This is not a complete list of any question imaginable. Brainstorm as a group to expand the iist past these basic topics. What are the general characteristics of the firm? o Type of Work o Annual Volume o Type and Amount of Work Self-Performed o Percent Bid Work o Number of Bids per Year and Number
