Audience Analysis The primary audience of this report is Dr. Thomas S. Wallsten, the Chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland (UMD). Dr. Wallsten received his Bachelor of Sciences (BS) degree in Psychology at the Madison University of Wisconsin in 1964. He went on to receive his Master of Arts (MA) degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1966 and his doctorate degree at the University of Pennsylvania three years later in 1969. Dr. Wallsten’s research interests include: cognitive and mathematical psychology, probabilistic inference, judgment, preferential choice, and risk assessment and communication under uncertainty. He has authored and co-authored many journal articles, journal reviews, and book chapters, as well as his own book in 1980 titled Cognitive Process in Choice and Decision Behavior. Throughout his education and career, Dr. Wallsten has earned many academic honors, scholarships, and fellowships. He also has served as the Area Research Director for the Center
