Generation of an alternating EMF
Generation of an alternating EMF DD is “spindles” AB is “loop” N and S are the “poles of magnet” C1 and C2 are “slip rings” E1 and E2 are “carbon brushes” R is a “resistor”
Discription : Loop AB is carried by a spindle DD. Rotated at a constant speed in anticlockwise direction , in uniform magnetic field due to poles NS. End of loop containing slip rings C1 and C2 but insulated from DD. Slip rings contains E1 and E2, connected to external resistor.
EMF in rotating coil Figure (a) A and B are rotating parallel to direction of magnetic flux. Resulting, no flux is being cut and no EMF is being generated.
Figure (b). Sides of the coil are cutting the lines of flux . Resulting ,EMF induced in the sides of the coil. “ the coil sides are moving in opposite directions, EMF act in opposite direction, represented by dot and cross”
` Figure (c) If they act in same direction around the coil , the EMF at brushes is twice that which induced in the coil.
