1 of 2 CHE 3473 Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics Fall 2011 Homework #6 Due: Wed, 10/5/2011 3 problems, 20 points total. 1) (3 pts) Construct the path diagram required to calculate the net heat effect, Δ H , for the following industrial reaction: C 7 H 8 (liq) + H 2 (g) Æ C 6 H 6 (liq) + CH 4 (g) Toulene + H 2 Æ Benzene + Methane The feed and product conditions are: Toluene 25 psia, 80 ºF Hydrogen 240 psia, 110 ºF Benzene 97 psia, 125 ºF Methane 75 psia, 120 ºF Construct your diagram assuming that our text book is the only source of information for heat capacity and heat of formation data. For each node in your path, specify the composition, temperature in ºF, pressure in psia, and fluid state. The Antoine equation for vapor pressure (Table B.2 in Appendix B of SVNA7) may be used to determine P sat or T sat if required. Identify the type of calculation required to establish the enthalpy change between each pair of nodes in your path diagram, e.g., ideal gas sensible heat calculation, etc.
