(SVNA7) Ch. 6, pp. 220 – 230 Assignments Handouts (on web unless stated otherwise) HW 7 due Wed, Oct 12 Ethane P-H diagram.pdf SVNA7 Ch 6 RW Walk-away points.pdf Outline 1. Extension of generalized correlations to gas mixtures 2. Phase equilibrium revisited (briefly) 3. Clapeyron and Clausius/Clapeyron equations 4. Vapor pressure of a liquid at temperature T 5. Thermodynamic diagrams and tables 6. Chapter 6 walk-away points Key Concepts 1. There is no temperature change associated with phase changes of pure components at constant pressure. Common example: a pan of water remains at 212 ºF as heat is added and water moves from the liquid to vapor phase. Likewise, water remains at 32 ºF as heat is removed and liquid water is converted to solid ice. For mixtures, there is a temperature change associated with phase changes at constant pressure. 2.
