Sarah Croog ID# 24939025 Journal #6 Discussion 8 TA: Barbra McCall This past week, Professor Gerber moved from the topic of eco-villages and melanoma to the topic of continuing his discussion of sustainable living, as well as discussion of service-learning and mental models that relate to how society and individuals view their relationship with the world. The lecturer on Monday, who happened to be Professor Gerber’s brother, presented a power point that featured images of his own efforts to help the environment and live in an eco-friendly manner. He discussed how he raises his own chickens, and other such lifestyle choices that help the environment. The guest lecturer also discussed various sources of renewable energy that would help the environment, in lieu of gasoline and coal energy. Wednesday’s lecture, taught by Professor Gerber, featured a contrast between new and old mental models that relate to society and nature. Current hegemonic mental models state that “the world was
