Sarah Croog ID# 24939025 Journal #8 Discussion 8 TA: Barbra McCall This past week, Professor Gerber moved from the topic of sustainable living, as well as discussion of service-learning and mental models that relate to how society and individuals view their relationship with the world, to the topic of contraception. The lecture on Monday, though completely unrelated to contraception and sexuality, was very enlightening. An extended clip of Al Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth was shown. The film presented hard evidence of the earth’s rising temperature, as well as images and video clips that exhibited the repercussions of burning fossil fuels, such as the melting of earth’s glaciers, an extreme rise in natural disasters, and a decrease in the availability of water and other natural resources. I found Gore’s documentary to be the most riveting and influential research out of every article that relates to environmental health to date. On Wednesday, a guest lecturer debunked many myths relating to forms of contraception. She also devoted a significant amount of time discussing various publicly
