STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THE HEART. a pump, the heart, is needed to circulate blood (and indirectly, lymph ). 4 chambers; 2 atria (receive venous blood) 2 ventricles (eject blood into arteries) plus valves a muscular wall, septum separates RA/RV from LA/LV. Function? the vessels that carry the blood from and to the heart: arteries veins capillaries
