ENERGY SOURCES USED BY SKELETAL MUSCLES. at rest: energy is obtained from fatty acids . during exercise: energy additionally from stored glycogen and blood glucose . what is the energy (ATP) needed for? 1. Muscle contraction. 2. Muscle relaxation. (a). During exercise is muscle respiration aerobic or anaerobic? during the first 2 minutes: anaerobic respiration. Why? after 2 minutes: aerobic respiration (if enough O 2 is available). (b). When the intensity of exercise changes, different energy sources are used. whether exercise is light or heavy depends on the persons capacity for aerobic exercise. this is measured by their maximal rate of O 2 consumption . what determines the capacity for aerobic exercise? 1.
