Mohammed Wahid Makda UGC – 111 Section – K 9 TA – Jessica Otto The Epic Of Gilgamesh states strong statements about Gods and their behaviors in early civilizations. Also, the epic states the roles played by Gods and not all Gods were good. There were some evil ones too. In our text book – The Worlds History – the author – Spodek speaks on this topic how early civilizations developed and the role of Gods came into the picture. Spodek states that Mesopotamia is the oldest civilization known to history dating couple of thousand years ago when the actual migration to agriculture took place. People due to increasing populations went from killing animals to agriculture practices to meet the needs of people. This lead to settlements of people near lands where agricultural land was of good nature. People built cities around those areas and a sense of government was also being taken place. The epic states that the rulers were elders of those societies and those elders were primarily women. Aruru – the Goddess created Enkidu to match Gilgamesh in strength, power, size, and all this
