Are Reason and Emotion necessary for taking Moral Decision Morality – a phenomenon used to deal with human ethics which tell us what is right or what is wrong. Usually it identifies with ‘good’ or ‘evil’ intentions of a person. It can also be a good or an evil motivation leading to something good or bad. These acts are mainly classified as moral acts (good/positive acts) and immoral acts (evil/negative acts). Such acts have a huge impact on our society. When such acts becomes a problem (evil acts) or need a solution, a decision has to be taken to cure such problems or sometimes some decisions have to be taken so they are moral and do not have a bad impact on society. Now, when we take any decision based on moral grounds we do so with logic(reason) or sometimes with emotions. A philosopher said, “the heart has reasons of which REASON has no knowledge.” Many people take moral stand based on their emotional prejudices rather than any logical reason. With the result their decisions are not objective and do not stand the scrutiny of logical reasoning. Generally, most of the people’s moral decision are based on emotions. Emotions do have its own place while judging morality but to give a go by to reasoning completely is neither justified nor correct. We tend to be emotional while judging other people’s actions. This is so because our thinking is prejudiced by our upbringing, culture and social influences. Right from childhood we are told what to do and what not to do based on, sometimes peer pressures.
