What Is Sociology? Main Three Points The study of institutionalized action and social institutions The study of society Institutionalized action = forms beliefs behavior that occur and recur over long periods of time and space. Ex. A man wearing pants instead of a skirt is reproducing gender institutions These beliefs and behaviors are reproduced Society’s Double Bind We create society We are also created by society Ex. We created Facebook but Facebook creates us by influencing our pictures and the way we set up our pages. Sociology = A Social Science.
