Chapter 6 Sperm Trip: Many hazards along the way: Half is going to flow out of the vagina due to gravity. Other sperm are killed by the acidity of the vagina. Half of the remaining sperm swim up the wrong fallopian tube. How far and fast can sperm swim? About an inch per hour. Where does conception happen? In the outer third of the fallopian tube.

Egg is surrounded by: thin gelotinus substance What dissolves this? Sperm secretes an enzyme that dissolves this layer. Then sperm penetrates. So we have conception! Fertilized egg is called a Zygote . Where does it go now? Travels back down to the uterus and implants into uterin wall. And what does it do? Implantation bleeding (spotting)

Chapter 6 How long do sperm live? Typically up to 5 days How long is egg viable? From 12-24 hours after ovulation How long to make more sperm? 24 hours to produce full sperm count. Can you have sex too often (fc)? Yes Best timing of sex (for conception)is 24-48 hours during a week of ovulation.

Does position matter? Best if: man on top. Why? Because it penetrates deeper. How can the women help conception chances? Put a pillow under her hips and stay like that 20-30 minutes. Effect of douching on conception? Keep from getting pregnant. Will kill sperm, but not dependable. With baking soda Lowers the acidity of the vagina. Effects of lubricants on conception? Decrease the chance of contreception.
