The Friday time is cancelled for this week only. 2 Recently EMF devices (where the energy comes from): ideal vs. non-ideal Resistors in circuits Today •There is a potential drop across a resistor, V=IR. •Energy is conserved because power is dissipated in the resistor according to P=I 2 R=V 2 /R. EMF Devices E c d a b An EMF device boosts charge from low to high electric potential energy. The EMF device does work on the charges. aa V+ -IR=V E =IR E Device Energy battery chemical generator mechanical solar cell light EMF devices convert other forms of energy into electrical energy An EMF device is like a pump that moves charge from one terminal to the other. The EMF guy + - + + + + abc V easier to follow It boosts electrons from high to low V, which is the same as boosting positive charges from low to high V.
