LTWL 114 Lecture 10/06/11 23:57 Charlotte’s Web – mid-point of book News that Wilbur is going to be killed; Charlotte promises to save him Wilbur really admires Charlotte and her ability to spin webs and wants to do it himself;  Templeton has to tie string to him for him to try Can’t act like a spider b/c he’s a pig; each animal has his/her own nature Eventually will be Fern’s nature, walking away, and taking on pure life Charlotte’s web comes into full focus half-way through the book “some pig” Charlotte tries to come up with new words to put in web Gets Templeton to work by asking him to go to the dumps and get magazine to get  some words Forced to do it because Wilbur’s food is his food as well Manipulating Templeton Charlotte = mentor role & assumes role of mother by singing a lullaby; Fern’s role in  raising animals = over Mr. Arable is worried about Fern
