Dang Bao – REL 122 section 29 – 5 hours of study papers The Gift of the Holy Ghost The gift of the Holy Ghost is the privilege to receive guidance and inspiration from Holy Ghost continuously, given to people who have been baptized and confirmed as member of the church, who have faith in Jesus Christ. Through the laying on of hands by the elders of the church, a person who has been baptized and confirmed may receive the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost if he or she is worthy. All people have to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost through the baptism and the laying on of hands in order to have the guidance from the Holy Ghost continuously. Even though nonmembers of the Church may receive the inspiration or be temporarily guided from the Holy Ghost, they don’t receive continuing guidance that can come to those who receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 10). Unformatted text preview: being faithful, keeping the commandments of God, keeping his thoughts and actions pure. One person can receive help from the Holy Ghost by listening and following the prompting of the Holy Ghost ,which is often referred as the “still, small voice,” which comes through each person’s conscience (D&C 8: 2-3). To be able to recognize the prompting of the Spirit, each person has to keep his mind and body clean and free from impurities, avoid unsuitable places and unrighteous situations (Helaman 4:24). In addition, the process of recognizing the promptings comes from learning to trust delicate, sensitive, spiritual promptings, and following them willingly. The gift of the Holy Ghost is one of God’s greatest gifts given to us, his Heavenly children, to help us go through trials in our lives and return to his kingdom. Following the guidance of the Holy Ghost will enlighten our minds, and fill our souls with joy (D&C 11:13)....
