IECS 140a spring 2009 Short paper topics Papers should take the form of a well organized discussion of one of the following topics. Be sure to provide examples and references to the text in support of your argument (at least three major instances). Length should be limited to five to seven pages. Before writing your paper, review the guidelines in “Rules of Style.” Before submitting it, proof the text for unintended errors. Discuss the ways in which Dante pilgrim sees aspects of himself reflected in a number of figures he encounters in Inferno, and what this suggests about how he comes to understand something new and important about himself. a. Canto 4- Homer, Ovid, Horace, Lucan- great poets b. Canto 5- Francesca is mirror of his situation with Beatrice? c. Canto 19-21?- political corruption of which Dante was falsely convicted d. Canto 19 - Boniface rule was based on combined spiritual and regal rule
