ABET PROBLEM : You are to determine the identity of three “mystery” (i.e., unknown) elements. The only information you have about the elements are frequency (Hz) versus energy (eV) data gathered using x-ray photoelectron (photoelectric effect) spectroscopy experiments. The data is on the course website as three .csv files (“Mystery Element A.csv”, “Mystery Element B.csv”, “Mystery Element C.csv”. In order to complete this problem, you will need to find acceptable citation sources. a. Import the data into Mathematica and fit the data according to the Photoelectric effect. The fit should be a solid line and the data as points. b. From your fit, determine the mystery materials' work function (in eV), turn on frequency, υ o (in Hz), and the slope. Argue the validity of the fit and argue whether or not the slope is Planck 's constant (in eV s). Of course, you will need to support your arguments with numerical approaches.
