ENGR210, Fall 2011 1 Ch.6 Structural Analysis (6.1-6.4 will be covered later.) 6.6 Frames and machines Frames provide support, and machines contain moving parts and designed transmit and alter the effect of forces. System consisting of frames and machines are multi-body systems subject to multiple forces/moments. Typical statics problems include solving for unknown (internal) forces/moments for a given multi-body system. In order to determine internal forces or moments, FBDs of the subsystems must to be drawn to expose those forces/moments as external forces/moments. (These forces and moments between two contacting bodies are equal and opposite.)
