Com 100 Lecture 9/8/2010 18:58 Introduction: Course goal: message control to achieve your personal and professional goals Course Objective: To understand the key principals that impact your ability to connect with audiences to achieve your message goals Disconnection between Goal and Message: Failed marriage proposal; why the disconnect? Failure to understand the audience? Failure to understand the situation? Two parts to this class Part 1: The lectures – understanding how messages work and what makes them effective Part 2: Recitations – practicing messages based on learning in lecture Message Goal: Connection Definition Influencing one another’s attitudes, values and behaviors through message exchange. The Feeling or sense that the other is really listening and involved in the interaction Purpose: To use messages to accomplish personal, groups, or social goals. I want you to learn, laugh or comply To Grow the relationships between the parties. I want us to like and trust each other.
