Developing your Leadership Talk Card 23:18 Introduction Decision Making works best with: Clear Leadership Open communication Equal partisipation Viable choices Power is a key issue The Key Issue in Effective Leadership is Power Building a leadership card means building the right kind of social power given the task at  hand Great leaders make great decisions by exercising the right kind of power What is Power? Do you have power> Can you control others, or just influence them? Who has the most power over you? Why? Power is: The perceived ability and willingness to control outcomes That is, the other perceives that you have the ability and willingness to dictate what  other person does. It’s a totally subjective assessment based on how your card is played Two kinds of ability: The ability to force or coerce someone to comply, or Gaining compliance through persuasion, modeling, or controlling a resource (like food,  or information) the other wants Perceived Willingness to Use Power Does the target believe you are motivated to use your abilities? If yes, then your power  increases How far can you be pushed before you will use it? Target makes judgments based on your own actions in past situations
