Unit 3 Empire Comparison Activity Comparison of Land Based Empires Learning Objective: Students will analyze the factors that led to the rise and fall of empires outside of Europe. Connection to History: This lesson continues our practice of identifying similarities and differences. The comparison of one culture to another reveals a great deal about what one group of people sees as important compared to the other. Three themes help us to focus specifically upon certain aspects of these land based empires, allowing us to see similarities and differences. For this assignment, you will be comparing four land based empires: the Ming Dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, the Ottoman Empire, and the Mughal Empire. Course Themes: Government (GOV)-- A variety of internal and external factors contribute to state formation, expansion, and decline. Governments maintain order through a variety of administrative institutions, policies, and procedures, and governments obtain, retain, and exercise power in different ways and for different purposes. Society (SOC)-- The process by which societies group their members and the norms that govern the interactions between these groups and between individuals influence political, economic, and cultural institutions and organization.
