Kelly Cheng Ms. Albano APUSH 30 June 2020 04.04 Political Reconstruction After the Civil War, the United States entered a period of reconstruction where the former Confederate States were under the control of the government. The Civil War and Reformation period can be considered as the Second American Revolution, as it resulted in increased freedoms, changed the ideology of the nation, reformed the laws and structure of the government, and bettered the country overall, similar to the First American Revolution. Similar to how the thirteen colonies gained freedom from Great Britain, the African American slaves also were able to escape the rule of their slave owner, bettering not only their own life, but also the country’s as well. After the Civil War ended, the 13th Amendement was passed, which outlawed slavery and involuntary servitude in all states and territories of the Unites States.
