Matthew Francis REL A 121, Section 52 14 October 2008 Agency Agency is a vital facet of our religion—so important, in fact, that President Spencer W. Kimball described it as the “basic gospel law” ( The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, 38 ). It was because of this gospel principle that one-third part of our brethren were cast out of Heaven, forfeiting their opportunity to gain eternal life and the right to live with our Heavenly Father once again. Satan and his followers were cast out of the sight of God because they sought to destroy our agency. There are many ideas that make up this truth President Kimball called God’s greatest gift to man after the power to create life itself. Agency is the ability granted by our Heavenly Father to choose either good or evil. The four basic principles thereof are first, law, second, knowledge of that law, third, opposition (good and evil), and last, freedom of choice ( Preparing for Exaltation: Lesson 2 ).
