Matt Hines PHYS 105 Section 0102 Assignment #5 Name of Article: Behavior and Energy Policy Source: Science Magazine (published by American Association for the Advancement of Science Author(s): Hunt Allcott and Sendhil Mullainathan Is this source credible? Why or why not? Yes I believe the source is credible. The co-authors are both professors of economics (which is the main issue of the article.) The article was found in the peer-reviewed journal Science , which is published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. While the motives of this institution are clearly pro-science, the journal is peer critiqued (by professors in relevant fields) to insure accuracy and precision. In addition, the organization is non-profit, which erases any economic motive that could decrease its credibility. The article is very recent and all claims and data are still relevant. What is the main issue of this article? This article discusses the role that the behavioral sciences can play in curbing energy consumption. The authors argue that small cost effective “behavioral interventions” can have a high impact on energy conservation. Name three claims that the author uses to support his or her conclusion.
