2 Abstract The Effects of HIV/AIDS on the economy of India are immense, ranging from their effect on the labor market to the money spent on the prevention of AIDS epidemic. In this paper, facts from various sources including the annual reports by Government of India, studies conducted by World Health Organization and private researches are taken to support the thesis. Most researchers have focused their attention on the effects of HIV or AIDS on African countries and their economies. However, not much research has been done on the effects that HIV and AIDS have on India and its economy. This paper goes on to state that in next five years the Indian labor market will decrease due the high mortality caused by AIDS and this will negatively effect the Indian economy along with the cost of prevention of AIDS epidemic.
