Max Haubold English 101 Feeder 2.2 10/08/2007 Minimum Wage The issue of minimum wage is controversial, and has two basic sides for argument. Many people support minimum wage, and even the increase thereof, while others think that minimum wage is unnecessary, especially increases, which will in effect help no one. Though both sides prove to have valid points, it seems that minimum wage has indeed outlived its necessity. Supporters of minimum wage have several reasons for bringing the topic out to the foreground. The Democratic Party, for one, brings this issue out to confront the Republican Party during election times (Rogers). By discussing the topics of minimum wage, those not affected by any changes will come out and vote to “help the poor man” and those who earn minimum wage will come out and vote to make more money for doing the same job. Another attraction of minimum wage and its increase specifically, is that some claim it actually helps the economy (Egan). Some communities have experienced positive effects from minimum wage increases. Experts say that the rate at which jobs are created is increasing, and in these places if the minimum wage also increases, the market will be more efficient, and will help the economy (Egan). On a more basic level, people say that workers need a minimum to live off of, and if you
