Max Haubold Paper 1- Focus A 9/8/2009 Julia Wood My Brother and Me Many experiences have made me the person that I am. In my childhood I was heavily influenced by my father, who taught me many of my skills and values. Grown from his instruction and commentary, my “self” has evolved into what it is today, and would not be the same without his direct guidance. This contact is known as direct definition. Impacted through explicit communication and instruction, a person‘s self can be molded and take form. In this type of life experience, a particular other will give honest, unambiguous input leading us to define how we live the rest of our lives. This significant other may use common stereotypes based on gender or race to exemplify who we should be, or possibly precedent standards created by our past achievements. These mandates will be taken to heart, as I myself have experienced. My brother and I are as close as brothers get, and trust each other completely. We attend the same school and hang out with the same friends, doing most everything together. This
