THESIS STATEMENT  PATTERNS 1. PROPER USE OF TERMS Ethos, logos, pathos=>fancy terms for credibility/character, logic,  emotion Nouns=>can’t be used as adjectives, i.e. “a logos approach” The breadth of the term (!)=> “The writer depends heavily upon logos . . .  .” (HOW?!) Instead: “The review’s  compelling evidence  [break this down],  specifically its reliance upon facts and statistics, highlights the  writer’s careful consideration of . . . .”

THESIS STATEMENT  PATTERNS 2. CLARITY/SPECIFICITY OF LANGUAGE “His her use of (broad term). . . .”=>what about it?  Continue narrowing focus (break down terms into parts, then find  what unifies the parts and show that in the thesis) Adjectives:  significant, important, awesome=>what does this mean?
