Lecture 1 Simulation of a Field Survey, Econometric Model, and Cost Estimates We will simulate a field survey by starting with a scaled sheet of paper or a scaled ACAD drawing of a field situation. Simulation Rules: Enclosed structure – no see through Tree trunk – no see through Open area – can see through Tree foliage – can see through Undergrowth – no see through without cutting line Time Allocations: presume a three person crew each instrument setup 15 min crew time each sight tie 1 min per 100 ft of line each tape meas 2 min each 100 ft of line cutting 15 min Stages: arrive at job site, walk boundary, "kick up" markers first setup, pick backsight point, "shots" of angle, distance tape drive, house set nail in backyard, move instrument must have a closed geometric "control" figure, triangle minimum. measure all distances and angles on control figure. compute two values of coordinates for closing point. calculate ratio of error
