This lecture/lab course is designed for Health Sciences majors. Survey of microbial forms with emphasis on bacteria and viruses: morphology, physiology, genetic mechanisms, and control of microorganisms. Pathogenic processes and microbes discussed in detail. Additional Information Microbiology is considered a sophomore level academic course that requires regular attendance , full participation and rigorous time and effort for successful learning to occur. The specific goals for this course are to prepare future nurses and allied health professionals to function in a safe and knowledgeable manner in an environment where pathogenic microbes are present causing human disease or where these agents are the subject of academic, scientific or medical inquiry. It is essential to learn correct technique in the lab for your own safety as well as the safety of all colleagues and personnel. Please familiarize yourself with student lab safety by reading the instructions in the beginning of your lab manual before attending the first formal lab. Required for this course are the following materials: the textbook, the micro handbook, the class notes, the lab manual, a permanent marking pen, a set of colored pencils, disposable gloves and a lab coat which must reach knee length .
