GPA Project 1. The GPA's for session 2 2001 of all East Campus students who have completed at least 30 credit hours are on reserve in the library and online at . (Or on Valencia homepage go to faculty websites.) Use your the random number generator on your calculator (or table of random numbers) to select a random sample of 25 from this population of GPAs. There are 4299 students. Explain clearly the method used to get this sample, show the random numbers from the random number table (or calculator), and the corresponding random sample of GPAs . Each student will have their own sample. (A) What does μ represent in this problem ? (in words; not numbers, be as specific as possible) Explain how μ could be calculated if one had enough time and motivation but don’t do it. (B) Make a histogram for the sample GPA's. Use intervals on the axis 0 to .5, .5 to 1.0, 1.0 to 1.5, … 3.5 to 4.0. Based on the Nearly Normal Condition in your text (page 537) use the histogram to decide if the t-distribution is valid in this

(Include a sketch with the axis labeled and showing the sample mean. Use a significance level , = 0.05, and state your conclusion carefully in terms of GPAs. 2. This question uses the data from problem 1. A) Make a 95% confidence interval for the mean grade point average for all the students. B) Interpret the interval in part A in words about GPAs. C) From the confidence interval in part 2A, what would you conclude about the null hypothesis in problem 1D ? Explain. (You may want to read page 455 in text.) D) From the confidence interval in part 2A, what would you conclude about the statement " the mean GPA for all East campus students with at least 30 credit hours is 2.8" ? GPA data is in the library at the reserve desk and on the website above....
