First individuals are raised in social environments in which they learn different ways of thinking and acting. 2. Conflict is more likely when people are interdependent 3. Conflict may result from tension 4. Conflict may result from our inability to forecast the impact of our behavior on others. 5. Conflict may result from our commitment to our own world. Effective ways of resolving Conflict: 1. Directness 2. Singular perspective 3. Commitment 4. Hidden linkages 5. Personalization 6. Relationships 7. Unresponsiveness Balance Theory: People strive to maintain balance in their attitudes towards other people and objects agree with people we like; disagree with people we don’t like Prospect Theory: When people see losses they make riskier decisions. When people see gains they make more conservative decisions. Two-Step Flow: Where media content indirectly reaches on unexposed person via someone who as seen or read the message Sequential Interdependence: 1. Information passed from station to station 2. Useful for top-down management structure 3. Not useful for adapting to change or stimulating creativity Conflict Styles: o Avoidance o Accommodation o Compromise o Withdrawal
