What is a force? Practical definition: it’s a push or pull It can cause a body to accelerate It’s a vector so it has both a magnitude and direction Force is the rate of change of momentum Newton’s 3 laws 1. If the net force on an object is zero, the object will not accelerate Galileo’s law of inertia 2. The amount of acceleration depends on the net force and on the mass of the object 3. For every force there is an equal and opposite force
