EML2322L – Design & Manufacturing Laboratory Design Project Schedule for Fall 2011 The purpose of this schedule is to provide a weekly guide for what you should be working on to remain on track for the design project in the course. You should average 5 concentrated hours of work each week outside class. LECTURE PROJECT ACTIVITY FOR THIS WEEK DATE August 23 Read Design Project and Design Report Format handouts thoroughly [0.5h] (week 1) Begin background information research (read & start answering questions) [4h] Ask instructor/TAs for help as you have questions about the first report August 30 Complete background information section of your report [2h] (week 2) Begin conceptual design drawings and written description [7h] Install the new version of SolidWorks on your computer (see EML2023 TAs for help) Ask instructor/TAs for help as you have questions about the first report September 6 Complete conceptual design drawings and written description [2h] (week 3) Work with group on [2h] Read common mistakes section of the design report handout and avoid noted errors Proof read all report sections, or take them to the on-campus reading lab (grammar mistakes, spelling errors, formatting problems and messy work will be penalized) Photo copy conceptual sketches for next week’s assignment (evaluation matrices) Ask instructor/TAs for help as you have questions about the first report September 13 (*) Submit first design report (promptly at beginning of lab period) (week 4) Create evaluation matrices by comparing conceptual designs [5h] Perform motor torque/speed calculations using lecture notes and Excel template off course website to select appropriate motors [1.5h] September 20 TA reviews evaluation matrices (week 5) TA reviews motor torque/speed calculations and final motor choices Work on designs for motor mount brackets and wheel hubs using lecture notes on mechanical power transmission and motor mount/wheel hub design guides. Create part models and detail drawings for motors, wheels, motor mounts, wheel hubs & mobile platform (part models of motors are on course website) [3.5h] F i n i s h [3.5h] Create robot assembly model [2h] September 27 Review designs for motor mount brackets and wheel hubs with TA (week 6) Review robot assembly model and part drawings with TA (focus on all required components for second report) Review requirements for detail drawings, assembly drawings and bills of materials F i n i s h assembly model & assembly drawings
