It increases surface area by 3X 2. Inside surfaces is lined with absorptive cells modified into villi . a. Villi are intestinal cells that absorb nutrients from the inside of the s.i. b. Villi increase absorptive surface area by 10X 3. Villi are covered by microvilli . a. Microvilli are projections on the villi that increase their surface area by 20X Folds, villi, and microvilli increase the absorptive area by 3*10*20=600 times compared to the smooth cylinder.
