Quiz 2 EMA 4714 - Materials Selection and Failure Analysis KEY Monday, January 31, 2005 You will recall that in the Colorado Boxed Beef fire sprinkler system case, Brown designed their system around 1.5-inch NPS Dyna-Flow thin-wall steel fire sprinkler pipe. Relevant dimensions and properties for Dyna-Flow and, for comparison purposes, schedule 40 steel pipe are provided in the Table. Due to the light weight of the pipe, hanger spacing was increased to 15 feet [from the 12 feet as per NFPA for schedule 40 steel pipe]. Considering the problems with the Brown installation, consideration is being made to replace the entire system with CPVC plastic pipe [Noveon’s “Blazemaster”]. In order to deliver the same volume flow rate as Dyna-Flow, the ID will have to be increased, requiring a larger NPS - 2-inch will work. Specifications for CPVC, and, for comparison purposes, steel pipe are provided in the following Table. 1. [10 points] As calculated in the powerpoint presentation, properly joined [e.g. roll-grooved]

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
