HDL and Duration • Long-term physical activity leads to greater increases in HDL • Even if we break down HDL, PA is best! HDL-C Levels Master Runners 66 Older Untrained – Lean 45 Older Untrained – Obese 42 HDL-C Levels in Older Runners So it appears that older distance runners who have been very active for numerous years have much better lipid profiles compared to their sedentary peers than we would expect! • But is it just because these are cross-sectional studies and they might have better lipid profiles even if they weren’t athletes??? OR • Have their numerous years of training resulted in markedly better lipid profiles??? WOW! WOW!
