Journalists can pretty much publish whatever they want but there can be consequences including slander and libel. European countries have more constraints and lower requirements to sue for slander and libel. 3 rd world countries have no freedom of press and the government controls the media Contemporary media : Goal of media is to make money; the scoop is often sought after because it boosts the ratings and sales which leads to more profit.
