Verbal Communication Styles h Indirect and Direct Indirect - messages are implicit and use hidden meanings Direct - messages are explicit and stated plainly Elaborate, Exacting and Succinct Elaborate - used in high context society, uses detail, descriptive. Example- Arabic cultures Exacting -focus on precision and using the correct number of words. Example- Germany and England Succinct -used in low context society, uses few words and understatements. Example- Asia

Verbal Communication Styles h Contextual and Personal Contextual - Focuses on the speaker and relationships (seniority or status), found in high power distance societies. Personal - Use first names, address informally, found in low power distance societies. Ex. US Affective and Instrumental Affective - uses intended meanings, focus on how the message is sent, found in collective cultures Instrumental - Goal oriented, focus on what the speaker is saying
