Strawberry Moon I want to respond to the poem “Strawberry Moon” by Mary Oliver because I thought the way the poem progressed was very interesting. In the beginning it seems happy and romantic like Elizabeth fortune found a man and they're having a baby but then it begins to explain how the man found another wife and the tone begins to sound melancholy as Elizabeth climbs up into the attic in sorrow and shame the other women put on her of her possible lost baby and the man leaving her. In the end the tone turns to empowered when the women band together and start some sort of mob. I think the plot of this and how the tone changes throughout the poem is interesting because the poem takes place over 40 years and the first and last tones of the poem are so short and the middle tone is the longest. So Elizabeth's feeling of happiness and romance lasts for a short amount of time up until the man leaves her to marry another woman and the tone of sorrow and shame lasts for 40 years while she hides in the attic but the after the tone of sorrow
