T – Justice A. Counter-interpretation: Oxford American defines justice as “the quality of being fair and reasonable,” which implies giving each their due. B. Violation: The aff’s definition of justice is derived from a sociopolitical source. C. Standards 1. Common usage – Their interpretation of justice is only found in the theories of a few radical philosophers. It’s un-educational because there’s no in-round clash when their nonsensical, counterintuitive definition is inaccessible. Instead, prefer dictionary definitions because they provide common ground for pre-round research. 2. Predictability – Deriving a theoretical definition from an article by a radical philosopher is unpredictable because every other debater takes definitions from either a dictionary or topic literature. Their sociopolitical stance is unpredictable because it’s a theory, not a definition.

Voters: Fairness is a pre-standard reason to vote because debate is a competitive activity that needs to rules to deter abusive incentives to win. Education is a pre-standard reason to vote affirmative because debate is an education activity. Allowing these arguments to prevail will destabilize debates legitimate work ethic.
