OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE The main objective of this course is to present a comprehensive analysis of contemporary issues in global political economy. To achieve this goal, the course has been divided into the following three sections: 1* Theoretical discussion on global political economy 2* History of global political economy, current economies, and future trends 3* Contemporary social issues in global political economy In our discussion, we will present various competing and contradictory ideologies. You do not have to agree with any or all of the theories presented in our class. The main objective is to acquaint you with existing literature on this subject. A. Theoretical Discussion on Political Economy In this section, we will present a number of theories to make you understand global political economy. This comprehensive discussion will include many 'left wing' and 'right wing' controversies in existing literature and their historical development. B. Global Political Economy and Future Trends In the second part of this course, we will review the Historical Development of Global Political Economy. In particular, we will examine the pre market economy, the emergence of market society, the industrial revolution, and economic and political consequences of industrial revolution, emergence of modern capitalism, and the globalization of economy. Examples, from both developed and underdeveloped societies, will be used to give you a comprehensive point of view. C. Global Issues in Modern Political Economy We expect that above discussion of a number of theoretical perspectives and history of political economy will enable you to better understand and critically examine some of the most important contemporary global issues. In this section, we will present an in-depth analysis of these issues. We will begin this section by explaining a number of concepts related to development. After this discussion, we will focus
