Chien Chiu Hsiung English 2 Professor Megan Murtha October 19, 2009 In the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof , Tennessee Williams emphasizes about Brick relationship between Margaret and Big Daddy. There were several moments that show Brick trying to avoid the conversations with them about his behaviors. Throughout the play, Big Mama, Gooper, and Mae view Brick as a man who has given up on himself and the world. Tennessee Williams, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof discusses about Brick lost of his friend, skipper which resulted him to live a life of “mendacity” and to get away from his life by drinking. After Brick lost his friend, Skipper, he has a melt down and begins to drink. Brick become broken up because he lost the only true person who he cares and loves. Instead, he is stuck in a loveless marriage with a wife who he does not want to make love with and a nagging mother who wants them to have children. So, he takes in drinking as a way to get away from them. Also, Brick is too afraid to tell Margaret and his mother about his homosexual desire for
