Assignment 3: Breaking the Genetic Code Full Name: Chien Chiu Hsiung Lab Section: WZ2A Last four digits of your SSN: 6917 Lab instructor name: Professor G. Perrin Part One (read the first seven pages under Menu #1) 1. Make a Table to show ALL codons for each of 19 amino acids using the simulation in the online lab . ( 3.5 points ) (H INT : you will want to try every combination possible, so I recommend a table like the one below to make sure you look at them all. I’ve started it for you but you will need to fill in all the potential codons. You will see for each codon you should type in the Amino acid name below it. In the first box UUU (codon) = phe (name of amino acid). What amino acid is the codon UUC? In this simulation GLN and GLU are considered the same thing. Find one codon for either gln or glu. The codons ile and iso both mean isoleucine) Second base of the codon is in this row across First base of the codon (is in the column below) U C A G Third base of the codon is in this column down) U UUU = phe UCU= ser UAU= tyr UGU= cys U UUC = phe UCC=ser UAC=tyr UGC=cys C UUA = leu UCA=ser UAA= *** UGA=*** A UUG=leu UCG=ser UAG= *** UGG=trp G C CUU=leu CCU=pro CAU=his CGU=arg U CUC=leu CCC=pro
