Argument: Dorothy Logie and Michael Rowson argue that debt is a human rights issue because debt and structural adjustment policies reduce the state’s ability to address discrimination, vulnerability, and inequality. Debt relief, if channeled in the right way could help reduce poverty and promote healthcare. Debt and Economic Adjustment Debt weakens the economic growth and it discourages public and private investors because of higher taxes, higher inflation, and devalue of currency cause by debt. Debt repayments draw off foreign exchange needed to buy imports essential for economic growth and continuation of the health systems.
