187 BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Ariel Perez was born February 21, 1971, in La Havana, Cuba, to Antonio Perez Rodriguez and Mirtha Felipa Perez Castro. He attended elementary school in Marianao until end of sixth grade when he moved with his family to Tenerife, Spain. After one and a half year living at the Canary Islands, he returned to America, San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he graduated from Colegio Bautista de Carolina High School with honors. On August 1990, Mr. Perez entered a pre-engineering program at the University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón Campus (CUTB) where he obtained an Associate in Science and Mathematics degree. Subsequently, he transferred to the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (RUM). While attending RUM, he enrolled in the Cooperative Education Program (COOP). As a COOP student he worked for almost one year with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – Region II, Edison, New Jersey.

Unformatted text preview: On May 1996, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with honors (Magna Cum Laude) and received the Ettienne Totti award, which is the Civil Engineering Department award to the best undergraduate student. After graduation, he worked for CMA Architects & Engineers, a prestigious engineering consulting firm established in San Juan, Puerto Rico since 1959, who awarded him with the CMA Architects & Engineers grant for graduate studies.
