Paper #2- Photography Photographs are something that many people take for granted. People are used to seeing photographs on the Internet, billboards, in magazines, and in their own homes. However, without technology, we would not have photographs. Culture and Technology delves into the aspect of technology as “actors” in Chapter 10. Slack and Wise propose that technology “translates their will into an action of its own” (118); it alters the form of something. The camera acts as a translator of real-life objects because it alters their form into a photograph that can be printed and kept forever, whereas the real-life object may eventually disappear. For our project, we went around King Library and took pictures of words on books to spell out the Miami Fight Song. The camera translated the words on book covers to images that we could upload to the computer and Photoshop. In this case, the computer also acted as a translator because we were able to crop images and put them together in a way the camera couldn’t even
