TO: Zachary Evans, Vice President of Operations FROM: Joseph Mirola, Claims Manager DATE: January 22, 2011 SUBJECT: Consideration of keeping the Rocky Mountain Mutual Fitness Center open It is at the behest of myself and at least 35% of the employees of Rocky Mountain Mutual that I write this memorandum to show the benefit of not only keeping the company Fitness Center open, but to further encourage participation by more of the company's employees to improve employee health, save medical costs, reduce absenteeism, and improve productivity. Background When the Rocky Mountain Mutual complex was built as a model center of business, one-million dollars was invested into a state-of-the-art fitness center with three purposes: 1. No sports clubs or fitness facilities exist within reasonable driving distances from the firm's headquarters complex, thus would provide the capability of employees a location nearest their work environment. 2. Company management made consideration to maintain employee health as an important benefit for all employees. 3. With future plans to expand the company, the fitness center presents itself as a recruitment tool to a population of prospective young employees. Facts and Benefits There is evidence that the fitness center has had considerable benefits to company productivity and reduced employee health costs. After review of just the employee's records, the following statistics are presented as proof of the fitness center's benefit: 1. Employees that used the medical center had lower medical costs. a. 25% of the employees (62 people) who used the facility once or twice a week showed medical costs of $300 per person, totaling $18, 600. b.
